The First Tee of Lake Erie is a non-profit youth development organization with the vision to provide the vehicle through which kids can accomplish their dreams, thrive socially, excel academically and athletically, and become productive members of society with integrity, strong family values and a commitment to community.
Our organization services all of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan with our Life-Skills curriculum. Currently programming is delivered at 27 elementary schools, 9 green grass facilities and all 4 of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo. We have 3 different programs that provide different approaches to deliverance.
Life-Skills Certification Classes
Held at green grass facilities throughout the year, each 9 week long session uses golf to deliver our life-skills curriculum, nine core values and nine healthy habits. Open to ages from 5 – 18 participants start out on the PLAYer level and progress up the 5 level system to Par level, Birdie level, Eagle level and Ace level. Participants gain admittance to the next level by passing life-skills and golf skills certification tests at the end of their current level. With each level taking one to two years to complete, the levels become more challenging both mentally and physically as they progress.
National School Program
The National School Program or NSP introduces both the life-skills curriculum and the game of golf to young people through their Physical Education classes. Physical Education teachers receive professional development training, provided age-appropriate golf equipment and junior golf lesson plans that create a fun and safe learning environment. The program enables students to develop an appreciation for the positive personal and social values associated with the game while engaging in activities that lead to motor skill development.
Collaborative Outreach Programs
Partnering with other local youth-serving organizations we bring the life-skills curriculum to greater Toledo young people that have never played the game of golf. The program is designed to use golf equipment to play games that are more universally known to easily involve a wider range of kids. Playing sports like football and baseball with golf equipment exposes participants to golf equipment but also allows for the deliverance of the life-skills curriculum.
