Lead Coach – Chuck Benes
Chuck has been apart of The First Tee of Lake Erie since the chapter began in 2005. Now serving as a lead coach and program director, Chuck oversees all of the programming done by the seven chapter coaches. Reaching the highest level of certification a First Tee coach can obtain has been one of his many great accomplishments while working with the chapter. Now in it’s 11th year, the Oak Harbor program has reached it’s highest number of participants ever.
When Chuck was asked how his program was going he had this to say. “It’s going really well, we’ve had good weather and great kids. We’re a life-skill organization and golf is a vehicle to teach life skills. We have our nine healthy habits and standards to abide by. It’s been great, it’s very rewarding, that’s the main reason we do it. I’ve been involved with youth golf in Oak Harbor since I came here since ’87. I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t rewarding. It’s good to see them go off to college and excel in their field of endeavors.”
A native of Cleveland, Chuck has lived in Oak Harbor community with his wife since 1987. As a member of the Professional Golf Association Chuck has served on the PGA President’s Council on Growing the Game in both 2007 and 2009.
